Class Descriptions

Leadership and 3 Core Values: This class is based on the 3 Core Pillars of AHA, Leadership Faith and Patriotism and taken as a 9th grade scholar. Scholars will study those values with an emphasis on leadership and the characteristics of a leader.

Financial Management: This is a personal finance management class taught to the 10 grade scholars. It is the Dave Ramsey Curriculum.

Foreign Language: Scholars are required to take a minimum of 2 years of a foreign language. This is an online class produced by the Rosetta Stone Educational Department. There are twenty five languages to choose from and scholars will need to take a minimum of two years of the same language to meet this graduation requirement.

Math Classes: These are taken in succession, meaning scholar’s need to pass the class in order to move to the next level. Scholars who have taken some of these classes in Upper Grammar will receive High School credit for those classes. Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-calculus, and Calculus I and Calculus II are all offered.

Science Classes: The following classes are offered Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics and Physiology/Anatomy.

PE Class: A scholar can participate in an afterschool sport to get PE credit.

Electives:  Speech and debate, and theater during the school day as a year long class fulfilling the elective credit.

Music classes are offered after school and include orchestra.

The James Madison Statesman Award is given to the senior who best exemplifies outstanding Christian statesmanship.
A statesman is a representative of Jesus Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve; one tooled in the art of self-government under God, able to wisely steward his God-given property —his conscience, time, and talent—and the property of others; one able to think and reason Biblically in all areas of life, rightly dividing the Word of God; and one able to lead, by example, his own generation in a spirit of selflessness as an ambassador of Christ locally, nationally, and internationally. For we are ambassadors for Christ. (II Corinthians 5:20)
